Senior Social Science Adviser

The Senior Scientific Adviser will act as the lead for social sciences in POST and UK Parliament and will provide expertise to Libraries and committees of both Houses on social science methods and use and appraisal of research evidence. Within POST, you will ensure the POSTnotes and POSTbriefs include social science research and perspectives and provide leadership within the team of social science advisers. This will include working closely with the Knowledge Exchange Unit and the Knowledge Exchange Lead in POST.

The person

• Ability to take a strategic overview of the role of research in UK Parliament and how it can support effective debate, scrutiny and legislation. Evidence of excellent social science research methods and analytical skills with demonstrable experience of synthesising research and data from a range of sources and of distilling key issues.
• The ability to work collaboratively and inclusively with colleagues at all levels to improve the use of research evidence across UK Parliament. Evidence of people management skills, with experience of setting realistic objectives, monitoring performance, giving feedback and supporting development or able to demonstrate the ability to develop these skills. Evidence of prior effective project management, including reporting and evaluation, to support accountability and organisational learning.
• Demonstrable ability to build and maintain professional networks and successful working relationships with a wide range of people inside and outside the House at all levels and from all backgrounds, whilst promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.
