Parliament’s heritage collections are public collections in the ownership of the House of Commons and the House of Lords and are of national and international significance. The majority of the collections relate to Charles Barry’ new Palace of Westminster but also include significant holdings which both predate, and postdate the Victorian period, and include significant contemporary holdings.

The Assistant Curator is based within the Heritage Collections Team which is responsible for the professional management of three historic collections (Parliamentary Art Collection, Historic Furniture and Decorative Arts, and the Architectural Fabric Collection).  The post forms part of the professional curatorial team responsible for managing the Parliamentary Art Collection to the best professional standards.  The Assistant Curator delivers a wide range of duties including taking the lead in the delivery and maintenance of the new Heritage Collections website and other key interpretation and engagement projects alongside an active role in collection management.

The plans for major restoration and renewal (https://restorationandrenewal.parliament.uk/) of the Palace of Westminster together with other buildings on the Parliamentary Estate make this post an exciting opportunity to contribute to the planning of the decant of the heritage collections successfully and safely, and influence key decisions on the care and display of collections during this important period in Parliament’s history.
