Do you have demonstrable experience of undertaking conservation work within a project/programme environment? Are you keen to work on diverse and interesting projects within a historic setting?

A major programme of restoration and renewal (R&R Programme) work needs to be carried out to preserve the legacy of the Palace of Westminster and ensure it can continue to serve as home to the UK Parliament during and beyond the 21st century. This is your chance to be part of what promises to be an exciting time in the biggest restoration and renewal programme in the history of the UK. You’ll join the Heritage Collections teams within Restoration and Renewal.

The Restoration and Renewal Programme is looking to appoint an Assistant Project Conservator to support the Project Conservation Manager, to plan and prepare the Parliamentary Heritage Collections for their decant from the Palace of Westminster. This is an exciting opportunity for an early career conservator seeking to develop their skills and knowledge.

The Assistant Project Conservator will play a supporting role in the environmental surveying of the Palace of Westminster, the creation of a collections hazards register, the digitization of historic conservation records, condition assessing collection items and developing collections related engagement activities and training.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and dynamic, able to work under supervision and independently. They will be an effective communicator with good interpersonal skills and have exceptional organisational, time management and problem-solving skills.

In addition to an attractive salary, the benefits package include the possibility of flexible working, while annual leave entitlement starts at 30 days per year. There are also subsidised canteens, a gym on-site and a season ticket loan scheme is available.
