The Role

Committee Office

Select committees consider policy issues and scrutinise the work and expenditure of Government departments. Select committees conduct inquiries mainly by collecting written evidence, questioning witnesses at committee meetings. A report is produced with the committee’s findings at the end of the inquiry.

The successful candidate will play a key role in achieving these aims by working as part of a team, making sure that administrative arrangements are in place for the smooth operation of the committee in all aspects of its work, in what can often be high profile work environment.

Overseas Office (Parliamentary Assemblies Section)

The Parliamentary Assemblies Section provides administrative and procedural support to the UK Delegations to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The Office supports all aspects of Members’ activity on the delegations including making travel and accommodation arrangements, issuing claims forms for reimbursement and engaging with committees and procedural offices of the three Assemblies. The Parliamentary Assemblies Section also facilitates inward visits by Rapporteurs and occasionally by Assembly committees.  



The Person

The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:

•Ability to build good working relationship and work inclusively to support colleagues effectively within a team.

•Ability to use MS Office applications (especially Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint) and to learn new IT skills including database work and content management systems.

•A can-do customer focused approach, with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with a diverse range of customers, ensuring inclusivity and impartiality at all times.

•Ability to produce clear, informative and accessible information for a range of audiences.
