Are you currently studying towards a Building, Construction, Technical, Surveying, Engineering or Project Management related degree? Do you thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment? How would you like to gain some experience in one of the most iconic buildings in the world?

The Strategic Estates team within the House of Commons deals with all property related capital investment matters. The Project Delivery Team is responsible for leading and delivering a wide variety of refurbishment, conservation and construction related projects to meet the needs of the both the House of Commons and the House of Lords within agreed governance parameters.

As a Project Leader (Sandwich Student), you will work as part of the Project Delivery Team to ensure the successful delivery of a wide range of projects across the Parliamentary Estate. Under the guidance of an Assistant Director, you will be given real responsibility and learn how to apply your own knowledge and skills to live projects in a high-profile environment.

Here’s what one of our current Sandwich Students, Oscar Koslover, has to say about his placement so far. “It’s been an eye opening experience. I’m getting a lot of experience in stakeholder management and learning things that cannot be taught in a classroom. Working here is really unparalleled as there are requirements to projects that are unique to Parliament and you won’t get anywhere else. It’s so much more than politics!

My first few weeks were spent attending meetings, observing and getting used to the systems. It’s good to see how things work from a practical sense and not just the theory.

What really surprised me was the different types of roles there are from different specialities, from architects and committee staff to catering and security staff.

Everyone’s really friendly and helpful and I’m looking forward to working on my own project soon.”
