Do you have experience of managing the design process on large and complex construction programmes? Are you keen to work on diverse and interesting projects within a historic setting?

A major programme of restoration and renewal (R&R Programme) work needs to be carried out to preserve the legacy of the Palace of Westminster and ensure it can continue to serve as home to the UK Parliament during and beyond the 21st century. To do this, we're establishing a two-tier governance model consisting of a Sponsor Body and Delivery Authority. The Sponsor Body will act as the single client accountable to Parliament and own the budget, business case and scope of the programme and oversee the work of the Delivery Authority, which in turn will be tasked with delivering the Sponsor Body’s requirements to budget and timescale. This is your chance to be part of what promises to be an exciting time in the biggest restoration and renewal programme in the history of the UK.

You’ll join the design delivery sub-team within the Restoration and Renewal Programme Team, to manage a wide range of workstreams associated with the design of the Palace of Westminster and any temporary accommodation buildings. The team is responsible for commissioning all the design workstreams and we’re the primary interface between Parliament and the architecture and design partner - BDP. You’ll work closely with the cost and programme management consultants, Jacobs. The team is managed by a Director assisted by two Leads for Architecture and Engineering respectively.

As the post-holder, you’ll play a vital role in establishing and then coordinating the requirements of a wide range of user groups and internal stakeholders. Working closely with the Senior Design Lead (Engineering) and will ensure that there is effective briefing and management of consultants to drive value for money, consistent quality and timely delivery of the various workstreams. They will work with colleagues on overlapping areas and ensure that a clear strategy is in place and understood for each engineering design element.

The post-holder will lead on major design or conservation projects, manage stakeholder relationship and deal with complex issues. You will assist the Senior Design Lead (Engineering) on several engineering infrastructure projects and associated workstreams under direction from the Palace / Design Director. These include: Mechanical & Public health engineering services, Energy Centre design, energy efficiency, sustainability and the environment including BREEAM, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Acoustic engineering, Vertical transportation, Specialist building physics and energy modelling, and Fire system engineering.

You’ll be a committed team player, but also comfortable working autonomously. You’ll also be happy to take responsibility for prioritising tasks and exercising judgement on day-to-day management issues.
