Do you have an excellent understanding of museum documentation policies and standards (particularly Spectrum) and experience of using and improving collections management systems/databases? Would you relish the opportunity to take on a key documentation management role in a historic setting? Then make the move to the House of Commons Strategic Estates Heritage Collections team.

In order to preserve the legacy of Westminster Palace and ensure it can continue to serve as home to the UK Parliament in the 21st century and beyond, a major programme of restoration and renewal work must be carried out. We have already begun to establish a new, two-tier governance model for the programme. However, in preparation for the Restoration and Renewal work to begin, we’re looking for an enthusiastic individual, possibly with a Museum Studies qualification or a Masters in a related subject, to join our Heritage Collections team.

Working closely with the Curator’s Office, you’ll be responsible for managing the team of Documentation Assistants that are auditing, updating and cleansing collections documentation and a collections database in preparation for potential object movements. As well as planning and overseeing the work, we’ll rely on you to check data against records and work with our collections teams on research to resolve any cataloguing anomalies. Ensuring that records are enhanced in the collections database to meet necessary data standards will be important too. And, when it comes to setting long-term strategic goals, training and supporting staff in the use of the collections database or developing relationships with a variety of key stakeholders, again, we'll count on you to deliver.

To succeed, you’ll need extensive experience of object handling and a proven ability to supervise and guide others, including external contractors. You’ll also need to have worked on a data-cleansing project with museum’s collections data and/or large-scale object movements and be interested in the potential of new technologies to enhance collections records. An excellent people and project manager, you have great costumer service skills and are used to dealing tactfully and confidently with people at all levels. What's more, you’re a committed team player, work well independently and are willing to take responsibility for prioritising work and resolving day-to-day management issues.

In addition to an attractive salary, the benefits package include the possibility of flexible working, while annual leave entitlement starts at 30 days per year. There are also subsidised canteens, a gym on-site and a season ticket loan scheme is available.
