The Role

This is a varied administrative role supporting work of the Speakers Parliamentary Scheme and the D&I team. The primary purpose of the role is to support the delivery and evaluation of each cohort of the Speaker’s Parliamentary Placement Scheme. This scheme is part of the House of Commons’ commitment to community engagement and social mobility, following the recommendations of the Speaker’s Conference on Parliamentary Representation in 2010. Duties of this post will include delivering the current intake of the Speaker’s Parliamentary Placement Scheme, assisting in the evaluation at the end of the scheme, and supporting the delivery of the next cohort. This includes induction and ongoing pastoral care of interns during their placements.

In line with work demands and priorities, the postholder will support other projects of the Diversity and Inclusion team during the year.

 

The Person

The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:

  • Excellent organisational skills, including records management, and ability to prioritise and deliver a high quality level of work with conflicting deadlines, working with others to ensure goals are met

 

  • Effective communication (oral and written), interpersonal and team-working skills: able to build and maintain effective relationships with, and relate to, people at all levels and from diverse backgrounds, including Members, adopting a flexible approach.

 

  • Ability to anticipate and respond flexibly to problems and needs, make contingency plans and take remedial action.
