Eligibility

This is a bicameral role and applications are invited from House of Commons, House of Lords, and Parliamentary Digital Service.

Introduction  

The Parliamentary Security Department (PSD) is responsible for physical and personnel security across both Houses of Parliament and provides support to Members and their staff both on and away from the Estate. Its purpose is to keep Parliament safe and open for business.

The Role  

PSD are looking for a highly skilled control room supervisor who has experience of working in a Security Control Room/Security Operations Centre (SOC) environment. This is a pivotal role supporting both operational and support staff and managers in the Parliamentary Security Department (PSD) and engaging with senior managers and all staff and external partners. Your role is to ensure their safety and the security and protection of an iconic building and its wider estate.

Some the responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that Operators maintain the required standard of appearance and professionalism, leading by example and appropriately managing behaviours and performance when they do not meet requirements.
  • Ensure that Operators are well-briefed, efficiently deployed and provided with the required level of support.
  • Ensure that all incidents and occurrences across the estate are reported correctly, as well as taking ownership of any required actions from such reporting.

Skills and Experience  

The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:

  • Proven ability to lead, organise and motivate a team of staff working across shift patterns on a 24/7, 365 basis in a pressurised environment.
  • Capable of analysing complex information from a range of sources in order to quickly make and document well-reasoned, consistent and rational evidence-based decisions consistent with organisational goals.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to succinctly translate and explain complicated technical information in a way that is accessible to diverse audiences across a range of channels.
