Introduction 

This is a unique and exciting role as Waste and Pest Operations Manager for the Customer Experience & Service Delivery team. The In-House Services team aims to deliver a comfortable, safe and efficient environment for Members, their staff and staff of the House to work in; as well as providing a welcoming and functional environment for all visitors to Parliament. The buildings on the Parliamentary estate are unique for differing reasons, some due to their heritage, others because of their need to be inside the secure perimeter and those outside of this, still require significant security and safety considerations.

The Role 

This is for a new operational position of Waste and Pest Operations Manager. The purpose of the role is to oversee the waste and pest control contracts to ensure KPI compliance and that Parliament complies with all waste, environmental and related health and safety legislation. 

The waste operation requires an on-site point of contact for waste who will also be primarily responsible for the Parliamentary estate to ensure all waste is disposed of appropriately which will include regular walk rounds to ensure there are no areas of unauthorised waste build up. In keeping abreast of the waste contract, this will assist in keeping pest control in alignment to minimise sightings and infestations. 

This role will maintain a close operational relationship with the waste and pest control contractor and their on-site teams to ensure contractual compliance and provision of an efficient and cost effective waste/pest management service across the Parliamentary estate They will also maintain a close relationship with the catering and heritage teams in particular for pest control and the service delivery teams.

Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

  • Responsible for the delivery of full compliance with all current waste, environmental and related H&S safety legislation
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operational waste and pest services for the Parliamentary Estate and ensure that these adapt to changing demands or ad hoc requirements as they arise
  • Assist with environmental audits and inspections which includes monitoring waste segregation across all sites to ensure adherence with the Waste Hierarchy and Waste Duty of Care

Skills and Experience 

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Experience of Waste Legislation and best practice techniques cross-functionalal working experience in complex operational environments; proven competency within the waste sector; experience of working with ISO14001; expertise in producer site waste operations and management, waste transfer and consignment and relevant final disposal processes within each level of the waste hierarchy for both non-hazardous and hazardous wastes.
  • Thorough, analytical and highly organised with good time management skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a diverse and non-specialist audience both orally and in writing.
  • Experience in effectively managing several complex tasks by prioritising and maximising the resources that are available and being proactive to develop new ideas and ways of working.
  • Effectively implements and embeds change for continuous improvement and keeps up to date on latest regulations and communications within team.
