Background

The Library is looking to recruit a data analysis and visualisation manager who will develop and deliver a data analysis and visualisation strategy and are looking to recruit a colleague with a passion for data analysis and visualisation and infographic techniques that bring information to life. They will take the lead on delivering the strategy including producing engaging and interactive briefing material to our key audiences, and delivering wider innovation that significantly enhances the services we deliver

The Library’s primary purpose is to provide impartial, authoritative, timely research and information services to support the work of the House of Lords. This includes the publication of briefings on all major business considered in the Chamber and in Grand Committee, and proactive publications and analysis of subjects of interest. The Library also regularly supports other offices in the Administration with information and research.

Working as part of the Library team, the data analysis and visualisation manager’s principal role will be to develop and deliver a step-change in the way that the Library is able to provide interactive and engaging content through data analysis, visualisation and infographic platforms. That content will be published on the Library’s website and available to the public. The data analysis and visualisation manager will also take develop and deliver the Library’s internal metrics, identifying how they can be best analysed and surfaced using data visualisation techniques.

The role will require an in depth understanding and experience of advanced data analysis techniques and methodologies, and practical experience of surfacing such material through innovative and engaging digital outputs.

The Library runs an induction programme for all new starters, and in agreement with your line management a tailored development plan will be created based on your individual training and learning requirements. Feedback and support will be provided to help develop you in the role.

The Role

You will lead the development and delivery of the Library’s data analysis, visualisation and infographic strategy. You will coordinate the response to complex statistical enquiries and identify opportunities to enhance existing and planned publications in coordination with Library colleagues. You will also identify proactive opportunities for new products and services such as data visualisation dashboards and infographics, and manage these products through to completion.

A key part of the role will also be to identify emerging opportunities, particularly those provided by new software and techniques, and recommend how the Library can embrace them to develop our services in the future.

You will also develop and deliver the Library’s key internal metrics and help to ensure they are analysed and surfaced effectively. Further, you will work with other offices across the House of Lords Administration when required to develop their data visualisation and infographic capacity.

The Person

The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:

Data analysis and exploitation - You have excellent data analysis skills and are able to use bespoke software solutions to deliver high quality data visualisation and infographic material according to rigorous editorial standards.

 This will include a high level detailed, professional knowledge of data visualisation and infographic software solutions, such as Microsoft PowerBI and Tableau, as well as analytical tools such as Google Analytics.

Further, you will have proven experience in delivering end-to-end data analysis and visualisation with high quality output provided to demanding audiences.

Proactive and forward-looking - You are proactive in seeking out new opportunities and solutions and can help lead and make recommendations on the development of the Library’s data visualisation and infographic capabilities.

Problem-solving skills - You have excellent attention to detail and can resolve problems creatively. You can meet challenging and changing deadlines and can consistently produce authoritative work that conforms to house style.

 Teamworking and collaboration - You have strong communication, teamworking and interpersonal skills, including flexibility, empathy and tact.
