Background

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and talented individual to lead Parliament’s central Information & Records Management Service (IRMS). The purpose of the IRMS, and the post-holder, is to ensure good information management is embedded into working practices, supports statutory obligations and enables Parliament to better manage, secure and re-use information. The role would suit someone with strong change, team and project management, and digital skills who enjoys working in a busy and varied environment. The successful candidate will be an experienced information management professional with a proven track record within the field.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of the Parliamentary Archives, you will:

  • Lead bi-cameral information management (IM) activities for the administrations, managing a team of professionals to deliver a comprehensive information management service to Parliament in support of strategic objectives and wider business priorities.

  • Provide expert IM advice and support to senior managers and staff on identifying, controlling and mitigating IM issues and risks, and develop effective associated assurance processes and support services.

  • Build a strong IM culture, by leading activities to embed positive information management practices on the ground, whilst delivering further changes to improve the maturity of the information and records management culture, systems and behaviours across the administrations.

  • Undertake senior management responsibilities within the Parliamentary Archives.

The Person

The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:

  • Familiarity with the full range of activities in the Information and Records Management Service portfolio, with experience of initiating and implementing new, or improvements to, services, processes and polices, ensuring these are accessible to customers. This should include experience implementing and/or working with Microsoft Office 365 or comparable collaboration and information management systems.

  • In-depth knowledge of the legal, regulatory and policy frameworks relevant to the effective and secure management and exploitation of an organisation’s information, with a sound understanding of current information management issues and best practice.

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, persuade and negotiate successfully and effectively at all levels in a complex environment, work inclusively and flexibly with a diverse range of stakeholders, and to build strong partnerships and networks, resolving tensions and difficulties, developing understanding and achieving cooperation
